NEW YORK--Major League Baseball has a new commissioner in town. His name...The Show Stopper. That's right folks, the new commissioner is also the new interim General Manager of the Detroit Tigers as well. I say interim because he has only taken over the duties until a new GM steps up to take the team over. When asked about this earlier, The Show Stopper was quoted as saying the following:
"I have always wanted to say that I managed a major league team. And why not have it be the team that I grew up watching and loving? This is just another thing to add to my growing resume."
Indeed it is. The league has already made several big changes. For instance, all of the GMs have been fired and each team must look for rookie GMs opposed to guys who have been GMs in their past. The Yankees, Orioles, Dodgers, and Mets have already hired their new GMs and they now await the other teams in the league. Teams cannot start talking to free agents or make trades until at least 20 teams have new GMs. Teams are allowed to talk about trades at any time but can not act on them unless there are 20 GMs in the league.
Also, the new commissioner recently added the DH to the national league. The reasoning behind this decision is still unknown.
ESPN's Baseball Tonight reporter, John Kruk, is now reporting that the league is requiring teams to release information about the team and the goings on behind the scenes if they want any chances at landing a big name free agent. The Show Stopper had something to say about this as well.
"We feel that this league should be open considering the game's past and also, we feel that everyone should have an equal chance at going after a free agent. Before, teams like the Yankees could just keep raising the bid on a free agent and no one could do a thing. With the new system, if you don't get a player, its not because you were outbid, it's because you didn't earn the right to contact said free agent."
